Please don’t snow, please don’t snow, please don’t snow. Seriously, I have to take a deep breath before I check the weather report every morning, as it can sometimes be frightening.
“Set an open course for the virgin sea.” Cruising is, perhaps, my favorite way to vacation. You get to see several different cities (if not countries), eat everything you can all for one price and only unpack your bags once. I love going on cruises.
This week I’m not writing about the Oscars. This is for two reasons. The first is that I only saw one of the nominees for best picture (Benjamin Button) and if you really want to know what the best picture is, look at the top of the highest grossing films list.
No, this week’s story doesn’t have anything to do with the classic musical starring Julie Andrews, however you will be hearing about a few of my favorite things. It was this week in 1878 that Thomas Edison patented the phonograph (sometimes called a gramophone).

According to the EPA “Scientists are certain that human activities are changing the composition of the atmosphere, and that increasing the concentration of greenhouse gases will change the planets’ climate.” This human activity refers to things we all do, drive a car, heat our homes, or go to a hockey game.
