Inhabited Chair: Twitter

For the time being, I find Twitter to be an amusing website that has very limited uses.  Having said that, it is really cool.  It represents practically endless possibilities to make our lives better.  I don’t believe that finding out what my friends are eating for lunch will enrich my life in any way, but I do, however, believe that Twitter is a vehicle that can gauge public opinion like never before.  Twitter has very real potential to reach a volume that allows it to give an accurate picture of what the average person is thinking.  Corporations and the Government will now have nearly instant and very accurate feedback as to how the general public is enjoying (or not enjoying) the products or services being provided for them.  For example, Dell had noticed that people were complaining on Twitter about some cramped keys on the Dell Mini 9.  On the Dell Mini 10, the apostrophe and return keys were made farther apart based on this feedback, which was really a win-win situation.  By using Twitter to keep a pulse on its customers, Dell was able to provide a better product making the customers happy. At the same time, these customers would be more satisfied with a better keyboard, and therefore more likely to buy future Dell products, making Dell happy.  This open dialogue between producers and end users will lead to both better products and better services.  Also, a company’s ability to gain insights using Twitter will help move our economy toward perfect competition, a theoretical economic model of a market which is predicated on perfect information and many competing firms.  Perfect competition is, in most cases, regarded to be the most efficient model. So, do I think that Twitter is the answer to our economic woes?  No, but it certainly won’t hurt.

Shoe Thoughts:  This week I am going to highlight shoes that remind me of “tweet”-ing onTwitter, in that they are made with tweed.

The Skechers Kanz Rapture is part of the Cali line for Skechers and these shoes say California surfer.  For a great causal outdoor shoe, you can’t go wrong with these.

For something a little dressier the Soho Lab Mimi will certainly do the job.  It has the relaxed feel of tweed with the look of a more formal shoe.  This is a perfect shoe for outdoor formal activities.

Made with traditional Sperry quality, the Striper Slip On brings comfort and durability to tweed shoes.  It has a padded tongue and collar to ensure your foot is comfortable, as well as non-slip rubber sole.

Non-Shoe Thoughts:

  • LOST Thoughts:
    • This week was a Miles episode which was very interesting.  It was revealed that Pierre Chang is Miles’ father.  While this does not totally explain Miles’ powers, that may be because we know so little about Dr. Chang
    • Faraday is back
    • Hurley is really funny with his attempt to rewrite Star Wars.  It reveals something important about him though, that he has a desire to try and make things better.  He may try and stop the hatch from being built, perhaps he causes the problem that forces the button to be pressed.
    • What does lie in the shadow of the statue?
  • The Office
    • It was an okay episode, not great, but not bad.
    • Andy is so gullible
    • So there is a war going on between the two best salesman in the show.  Who will win?
  • The Eagles off-season is killing me, now that Lito Sheppard has been traded and that Brian Dawkins has been signed to Denver, I now no longer have any current Eagles’ jerseys.  Maybe I will get a DeSean Jackson one.

And now I would like to say a few words about myself and my posts.  My name is Zachary Wolfson, I’m a student at Northeastern doing my internship at Shoebuy.com.  I will be writing weekly blog entries, which I modeled after “Monday Morning Quarterback” by Peter King who is a great sports writer and always gives some love to my Philadelphia Eagles.  Every week, there will be a main story where I discuss something that is happening in the world at that time, my shoe thoughts of the week, where I share my thoughts on a couple of styles and my non-shoe thoughts of the week where I just share random thoughts for your enjoyment.

Thanks for reading. I always enjoy hearing from my readers so leave lots of comments on anything I’ve said.  Please subscribe to the Shoebuyblog.com RSS feed and tell all your friends.
