Shoebuy Medalists 2010

In order to participate in the Winter Olympics 2010, we have formed our own team here in Boston at the Shoebuy headquarters. Except rather than compete, we will exercise our talents of judging. We will be looking at Shoebuy’s best winter gear and must haves for the season, ranking 3 items in each category with a bronze, silver, or gold medal. With thousands of products, this is going to be highly competitive!
Joining us will be the 3 official mascots of Vancouver this year: Miga the oh so mythical sea bear, Quatchi the earmuff wearing sasquatch, and Sumi the animal guardian spirit. Most importantly, we asked Mukmuk, the adorable Vancouver Island marmot, to help us out as we feel he just doesn’t get enough showtime as the sidekick.
Ice Sports
The Winter Olympic games this year are holding fifteen winter sports events. There are eight sports categorized as ice sports, from bobsled to ice hockey. Under our ice sports category, we are featuring our best products suitable for the stunningly graceful skaters as well as the rougher hockey players.

The name says it all: darn tough! These boot socks will keep your feet toasty warm through all the extreme wear and tear from tight fitting ice skates or heavy duty boots.

If you aren’t the brave speed skater who wears these bottoms alone, they are also great for layering on the coldest of days. Mukmuk the marmot is a little biased towards the brand name, but the humans approve as well.

Although these blades are made from ordinary nickel, these ice skates truly deserve the gold. You’ll love these skates inside and out, from the cushy foam padding to the feminine purple detailing.
Snow Sports
There are three sports categorized as alpine skiing and snowboarding events, and an additional four sports categorized as Nordic events. These include freestyle, snowboarding, biathlon, ski jumping, and more. To represent these events, we will showcase our finest ski and snowboarding gear.

This North Face hat may appear to be just a classic wool beanie, but we’ll let you in on the secret as to why it earned a medal; concealed by the decorative stripes is a micro-fleece earband lining which adds extra warmth where you need it most.

The versatility of this bag earned it the silver. It’s perfect for the jack of all trades who snowboards and skis, or perfect for a family with diverse interests on the slopes. Added bonus: the wheels allow for heavy packing without heavy lifting.

While this jacket is sporty, the sleek shape will keep you feeling feminine and not too bundled up on the slopes. This jacket gets the gold for its blending of fashion and function. Check out the other colors, our favorites being teal and purple.
For the Fans
Lastly, the dedicated fans (2.3 million), media (10,000), volunteers (14,000), and officials (2,300) need to keep warm while cheering on their favorite country at the events. Average February temperatures for host cities of Winter Olympics typically fall below freezing! Although Vancouver is said to be the warmest Winter Olympic’s host city yet, averaging around 45 degrees Fahrenheit, it is still no place for shorts and tank tops. We rated our top three ‘stay warm’ gear.

Get all your shopping for warm winter accessories done in one stop. This scarf, glove, and beanie set is made of acrylic material for comfort, but its the stripes, pockets, and buttons that will give your ensemble a touch of character.

As one of our best sellers, there is no better evidence proving this boot’s quality than the endless glowing customer reviews found on our website. “Warm, waterproof, classy, comfortable, stylish, well constructed” and the list goes on.

If you’re anything like the humans on our olympic judging team, you understand the pain and horrors of chilling, frozen stiff fingers. Gloves keep your hands warm temporarily, but these warmers will last for 7 plus hours if you’re planning any lengthy outdoor activities, from skiing to olympic event watching.
And there you have it, the only consumer products who can now stand next to other olympic medalists like Apolo Anton Ohno and Shaun White. Enjoy the rest of the Winter Games and go USA!
