Shoebuy volunteers with the Two Ten Foundation
For a second year Shoebuy.com worked with the Two Ten Footwear Foundation‘s community volunteer day. We lucked out in our assignment as we got to clean up the area around Jacques Pond in Lawrence, MA. Initially we were set to attack the rogue bamboo (yes, bamboo grows in Massachusetts) and some really wicked vines that were both choking out native plants in the area. Soon enough we were joined by a bus load of our friends from Reebok and the bamboo stood no chance.
Eventually we were pushed out of the weeds by the many other people from Reebok so we went off to look for other work which lead us to the mulch pile that indicated the beginning of the path we were laying around the lake. Since I was the one who brought my camera (phone, but it still counts!) I had to stand back and document the work on the mulch pile. But as you can see there was no lack of help:
The path wound around a quaint little lake that many in the neighborhood didn’t know existed. After walking the path I’m happy to report that the neighbors are in for quite the surprise:

Amazing right? How lucky were we to get to work in this area for a morning!
After bamboo slaying and trail blazing we were headed out to another hidden gem the Abe Bashara Boathouse for a little lunch with the other groups. I’m assuming this is Abe, I think he’s pretty cool:

After lunch we learned more about Groundwork Lawrence the group that arranged our work spaces. This made the day even more special learning what a great organization they are and how much we were able to help in such a short time.
